Staff

We aim to have a high ratio of adults to children, and achieve this through three members of staff and a daily parent / carer helper. The following staff work at Luckington Pre-school:

Trish Arnault-Ham, Pre-school Leader

Trish is qualified to DPP Level 3. She is a First Aider and also acts as Safeguarding / Child Protection Coordinator.

Lindsay Bishop, Pre-school Deputy Leader

Lindsay manages the admissions process and is qualified to Montessori Nursery Teaching level 3. She is our Deputy Safeguarding Advisor, a First Aider and is the Special Educational Needs Coordinator.

Rachael Stinchcombe, Pre-school Assistant

Rachael is a First Aider and has the benefit of having recently had children at the pre-school and being chair of the committee in 2009/10.

Debbie Milton, Pre-school Assistant

Both Rachael and Debbie are currently training to complete their Diploma for Children and Young People level3

Parent / Carer Helper

Parent/carer helpers are allocated by rota, and the number of sessions you are asked to undertake is based on the number of sessions your child attends.

Parent/carer helpers are asked to arrive by 8.45 am. All activities for the morning would have been prepared and everything set up by the staff. On arrival, please join the children on the carpet with the floor activity. A member of staff will guide you and give you a full break down of the session and the activity she would like you to lead and the aims and objectives of the latter.

You can help during sessions in the following ways:

  • Help put on aprons if necessary.
  • Remind children to write their names on paintings/drawings or write the children's names when required.
  • Encourage conversation - helps develop language, understanding and sentence structure.
  • Encourage the children to tidy up after finishing with any activity.
  • Be with the children as much as possible whilst doing as little as possible for them. Experimentation is an important
  • part of playing and learning.
  • Bring and prepare a healthy snack for the children and help with refreshments. (CHECK SPECIAL DIET/ALLERGY SHEET ABOVE THE SINK)
  • Help with washing up afterwards.
  • Sweep floor at end of session.
  • Please take tea-towels/hand-towels and aprons home to wash (when necessary).

Please ensure that you are aware of the health and safety issues covered by our policy statements.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ONLY STAFF ARE TO ASSIST CHILDREN GOING TO THE TOILET, HOWEVER YOU MAY HELP WITH HANDWASHING.

Please do not worry if your child demands more of your attention when you first attend as a helper. This is quite normal. Give your child the extra help s/he may require and s/he will soon let you get involved with the other children.

Please be available until 12:15 to help tidy the room at the end of the session.

If you have another child, s/he should not accompany you except in exceptional circumstances. The child is your responsibility and is not covered by the Pre-School insurance. For your sake and that of the Pre-School it is better to make arrangements for someone else to care for your other child if at all possible. Please always check with the Pre-School Leader before bringing another child with you to Pre-School as we are unable to accommodate extra children on days when the Pre-School is full. You can either swap your duty to another date or pay the fee to have another person cover your duty. Please see Parent Duty Rota on the Pre-School notice board for contact numbers.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP, WE VALUE PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT AND SO DOES YOUR CHILD.
